Amy H. Alcorn, PT, MPT, CMTPT/DN
Amy began her education studying psychology at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. As a member of the Kenyon swim team she experienced first hand the frustration of overuse injuries. She continued her education at Northwestern University Medical School earning her Master of Physical Therapy in 1994. Throughout her Master’s program, Amy enjoyed training for and competing in local triathlons and also worked part time as a personal trainer. Working one-on-one with “healthy” clients while in PT school helped her to understand the full spectrum of care from acute injury to optimal performance. Throughout her career, Amy has enjoyed working with individuals at all stages on this continuum, treating patients in a variety of outpatient orthopedic facilities affiliated with fitness centers and pilates studios.
As the mother of four children, Amy has continually adjusted her work/life balance based on the ever-changing demands of her family. She has complemented her professional education with extensive training in Pilates, completion of a 200-hour yoga teacher certification program, and hours spent teaching group fitness classes incorporating her unique flow of rehabilitation exercises, yoga, pilates and barre. She has earned the designation of Certified Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist Dry Needling from Myopain Seminars, and is also certified in Graston Technique. Recently she has focused her continuing education on coursework from The Postural Restoration Institute.
When she is not working or spending time with her family, Amy continues to enjoy running, swimming, yoga and pilates.
